Join ROSS Video at IBC 2025
Ross Video’s IBC 2025 presence was one of the most substantial. A lot of new gear and strategy that touches on video switchers, routing, control, and making “live production” more flexible. If your work involves live switching, broadcast, OB vans, studios or event production, their announcements are definitely worth digging into.
What’s New / Key Launches
Carbonite HyperMax — This is Ross’s production switcher platform (mid-sized footprint) that’s now launched in EMEA officially. It’s designed to deliver “big-switcher power” while being more flexible, more configurable. For mobile productions, remote trucks or studios wanting strong switching performance without huge size/cost, HyperMax is aimed squarely at that segment.
NRG Compact Routers — New compact routers designed to support SDI operations but with built-in paths to UHD. These are important because many facilities still rely heavily on SDI but need a route to move into UHD later. Compact routers mean less rack space, lower power/cost but retaining future readiness.
LAMA Acquisition — Ross acquiring LAMA audio-production software adds strength in their audio tools, especially for live mixing. For users, this expands the possible audio workflow offerings and deeper integration, especially in multichannel or live settings.
OverDrive v24 & Control / Automation Upgrades — New versions of their automation/control platform (OverDrive) with updated panels (Joystick, etc.), better workflows, more flexibility. Also better routing / signal processing control enhancements.
SmartShell v8 / CX-3R Joystick Panel — More refined device / profile / studio segmentation setups via browser-based UI, adaptive LCD buttons, etc. Improves ease-of-use, reduces set-up times.
Platform Monitoring & Cloud Provisioning — Ross is improving their enterprise management tools (Ross Platform Manager, license oversight), and showing off cloud provisioning (deploy across AWS accounts etc.) which helps for scaling or remote / distributed production environments.
What It Means for You
Switcher power without the bulk
If you need high channel count, fast transitions, mix, effects, or graphics from your switcher but don’t want a huge rack footprint, HyperMax + NRG routers offer you that middle ground.Easier migration path for SDI facilities
Because the new routers still support SDI but prepare you for UHD, it gives room to upgrade gradually rather than rip everything out. This helps with budget phasing, training, and maximising existing hardware lifespan.Better integration of audio + video workflows
With LAMA added, Ross gets more depth in live audio mixing and software tools. That helps especially for live events or broadcasts where audio demands are growing.Faster setup, less operational friction
SmartShell configurator, joystick enhancements, browser-based UIs reduce setup time, reduce mistakes caused by manual rework, and help across shows when you’re moving sites or switching between crews.More control & remote possibility
Cloud provisioning, better license oversight, remote monitoring makes setups more scalable. Useful for global crews, OB trucks, remote studios or hybrid production models.Future-proofing
Investing in new router, switcher and control technologies like those Ross showed gives you a path forward: you’re not locked into old SDI only, and you get options for UHD, remote operations, and more automated control.
