BirdDog at IBC 2025 – Booth 7.C13
IP Workflows, PTZ Cameras, and Connectivity for Modern Broadcast
BirdDog continues to push both the edge of compact, streaming-friendly camera gear and hints toward higher-end systems. At IBC / in recent announcements, here’s what we’ve seen:
What’s Happening Now
MAKI Live
This is a portable, wireless 4K streaming camera with features tailored for creators, small live setups, church, education, etc. It includes optical zoom, built-in Wi-Fi, and a 6-hour battery for untethered use.
It also supports NDI and SRT protocols, and can act in webcam mode (USB-C) so it can plug into Zoom, OBS or other apps directly.
Gesture/AI control (e.g. AI gesture zoom) is included, so operators or presenters can affect zoom via physical gestures.
It seems marketed as a “go-live anywhere” tool without heavy infrastructure.XL Ultra (Announced, Not Yet Released)
BirdDog has announced the XL Ultra as their next high-end broadcast camera line in their X Series, though it is not yet shipping. (Listed in menus under BirdDog’s product pages as upcoming)
Some sources note “coming November” as a possible availability for it (though I did not find a fully confirmed press release). You’ll want to double-check with BirdDog for firm timing.
What It Means for You / Your Readers
Social & creator-ready capture
With MAKI Live you’re not just getting a streaming camera — you’re getting a tool that helps content creators deliver higher production value without a full broadcast setup. For social, corporate, education, or hybrid events, MAKI Live bridges the consumer/creator and pro world.Unified live + edit pipeline
Because MAKI Live supports USB webcam, NDI, SRT, and traditional video outputs, it can be used not just for streaming but also for multi-cam ingest and as a capture source. That means you can re-use live footage in post more cleanly.Future upgrade path with XL Ultra
If a facility or production team wants to step into a higher-tier camera line, BirdDog is setting that path. The XL Ultra likely brings more advanced optics, sensors, and workflow integration compatible with BirdDog control infrastructure.Power and flexibility
Battery, wireless options, gesture control — these make it easier to deploy in unconventional or remote settings (exteriors, mobile sets, pop-up events) without needing full cam cart, cables, or outside power.
