Avid Knowledge Base - Managing PhraseFind AI Background Indexing
PhraseFind AI in Avid Media Composer indexes media in the background to make spoken-word search faster and more accurate. However, this indexing process is resource intensive and can impact Media Composer’s performance during active editing sessions.
How PhraseFind AI Indexing Works
When enabled, PhraseFind AI scans and processes your media in the background to generate searchable transcripts. This allows editors to quickly locate dialogue or keywords across large media libraries.
The trade-off is that background indexing consumes CPU and disk resources. On some systems, especially during complex editing sessions, you may notice slower responsiveness or playback issues while indexing is active.
Pausing or Stopping Background Indexing
If indexing begins to interfere with your editing performance, you can pause or stop it at any time.
To pause or stop PhraseFind AI indexing:
Open the Find window in Media Composer.
Click the gear icon to open Search Settings.
In the Search Settings panel, choose either:
Pause All Indexing – Temporarily halts indexing until you resume it.
Stop PhraseFind AI Indexing – Permanently stops indexing until manually restarted.
When to Pause Indexing
You may want to pause indexing when:
Working on a tight deadline and need maximum editing performance.
Running multiple background renders or exports.
Editing on a lower-spec system that struggles with resource-heavy tasks.
