Avid NEXIS Compatibility Issues on macOS Sequoia: What You Need to Know
Overview
Some Avid customers have reported stability issues when running Avid NEXIS on macOS Sequoia versions 15.3.x through 15.6.x. These issues commonly present as “Delayed Write Failures” and “Filesystem Busy” errors, which can disrupt editorial and post-production workflows.
The problems were first observed in macOS Sequoia 15.3, where changes to the operating system affect UDP-based network communication, a core requirement for Avid NEXIS performance.
What’s Causing the Issue?
Under certain conditions, macOS Sequoia causes the UDP socket managed by the OS to become unresponsive, preventing Avid NEXIS from reliably transmitting or receiving data across the network.
Key points to note:
The issue only occurs when the macOS Application Firewall is enabled
Avid NEXIS relies heavily on stable UDP communication
When the socket becomes unresponsive, read/write operations can fail
Apple addressed part of this behaviour in macOS Sequoia 15.7.1, which significantly reduces the frequency of the issue — however, it does not fully resolve it.
Avid is actively investigating the remaining problems and is also evaluating compatibility with macOS 26 “Tahoe.”
Recommended Workarounds
1. Update macOS Sequoia
If possible, update to macOS Sequoia 15.7.1 or later.
This version delivers improved network reliability and reduces the likelihood of UDP communication failures.
2. Disable the macOS Application Firewall (If Updating Isn’t Possible)
If you’re unable to update the operating system, disabling the firewall may resolve the issue:
Go to System Settings
Select Network
Click Firewall
Toggle the firewall Off
⚠️ Note: Disabling the firewall should only be done after assessing security implications, particularly in shared or enterprise environments.
