A long-term user of the Quadrus system, Gorilla has expanded its fleet of machines to allow for greater demand for fixed-rig productions. The upgrade consisted of hardware and licence expansions for the Quadrus system, along with the PTZ cameras and controllers from Panasonic. The system is already being put to the test by fixed-rig specialists, Dragonfly Productions, on its science series for BBC2, ‘Surgeons: At the Edge of Life’, which follows ground-breaking surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
“We have been using the Quadrus Ingest Machine for multi-cam studio ingest for the last five years, since it offers more recording formats than its competitors,” explained Rhodri James, Technical Director at the Gorilla Group.
“It has an intuitive interface and offers the ability to create proxy streams in real-time, along with multiple-destination recording. This has enabled us to use Ingest Machine for more complex operations and post-production workflows, such as fixed-rig productions. We needed the ability to record 24/7 with multiple video and audio streams, together with several deliverables; without the new system, this could have been unmanageable, especially due to the sheer volume of content. Moving into newer areas of business for us has been exciting and challenging; the advice and guidance we’re received from Altered Images has made the whole process so much easier!”
Tim Cunningham, Senior Regional Development Manager at Altered Images, added, “Upgrading and enlarging Gorilla’s Quadrus capabilities, plus being involved with the design and implementation of their fixed-rig elements, has been most rewarding, especially when you see what a difference the system has made to these productions in particular. I wish Gorilla well in this new facet of their development!”
